    Get PDF
Scientists and practitioners have developed and continue to refine methodologies of knowledge management with the aim to implement it into practice of public organisations. In recent studies, there has been an emphasis on the development of what can be considered a transdisciplinary approach in knowledge production and usage, where knowledge management, its theories, principles and practices are advanced. The aim of this study is to review the conceptual foundations of knowledge and knowledge management by advancing the conception of knowledge management in the context of transdisciplinary approach. The authors give an overview of the forms, levels and categories of knowledge. The increasing emphasis placed on knowledge in an organisational context has given rise to a new manifestation of capital which occurs as human or structural intellectual capital. By analysing theories on the essence of knowledge management, the viewpoint formed that knowledge management within an organisation should be viewed through the transdisciplinary approach, namely, production of knowledge that rises above disciplines should be done by collaboration of both academic and nonacademic representatives, who offer a new compass and map for complex problem solving

[EN] In recent years the system of higher education quality assurance has undergone several essential changes: a greater emphasis is being laid on the qualification framework, on student-centered learning and study results, the development of the teaching staff, active students’ participation in the assessment of the study process. The given study is oriented towards studying students’ opinions about the quality assurance of a study process at Daugavpils University (DU), Latvia. The participants of this study were 60 students from 12 master and doctoral study programs at Daugavpils University. The analysis of structured interviews with the students made it possible to identify the typical characteristic features of DU internal quality assessment. The research showed that students assess highly lecturers’ personal qualities (attitude to their profession, personal interest in students’ success, empathy, striving for cooperation) and their professional qualities (knowledge of the subject, didactic and communicative competence, and ability to get the feedback from students as well). To promote the cooperation between the students and the academic staff of DU, it is useful to practice trans-disciplinary out-of-study forms, which contribute to a deeper understanding of the study content, of topicalities in global education and possibilities of synergetic thinking in cooperation with students and lecturers.Davidova, J.; Kokina, I. As the knowledge base and importance of mitochondrial physiology to evolution, health and disease expands, the necessity for harmonizing the terminology concerning mitochondrial respiratory states and rates has become increasingly apparent. The chemiosmotic theory establishes the mechanism of energy transformation and coupling in oxidative phosphorylation. The unifying concept of the protonmotive force provides the framework for developing a consistent theoretical foundation of mitochondrial physiology and bioenergetics. We follow the latest SI guidelines and those of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) on terminology in physical chemistry, extended by considerations of open systems and thermodynamics of irreversible processes. The concept-driven constructive terminology incorporates the meaning of each quantity and aligns concepts and symbols with the nomenclature of classical bioenergetics. We endeavour to provide a balanced view of mitochondrial respiratory control and a critical discussion on reporting data of mitochondrial respiration in terms of metabolic flows and fluxes. Uniform standards for evaluation of respiratory states and rates will ultimately contribute to reproducibility between laboratories and thus support the development of data repositories of mitochondrial respiratory function in species, tissues, and cells. Clarity of concept and consistency of nomenclature facilitate effective transdisciplinary communication, education, and ultimately further discovery

Rethinking education of music teachers for new learners’ generation is as crucial as identifying the new competencies that today’s music teachers need to develop. According to analyses of EU documents and scientists’ conceptions concerning music teacher’s competences, the author characterizes tendencies and priorities for improving music teachers’ competences in the 21st century. The basic task of music education is promoting the formation of learners’ personal attitude to the world, to self and others, to provide the opportunity for learners to learn music as a new form of communication. In this context music teacher has to demonstrate knowledge and understanding not only in music subject, but in a) communication and positive relationship-building; b) collaboration with parents, colleagues, musicians, composers and specialists in other spheres; c) development of creative and social skills of learners based on three pedagogical principles – personalization, participation and productivity, as well as through and in the arts/culture approaches in music education process.

The development of harmonic hearing is an essential component of the system of music teachers’ training. The paper is concerned with the type of a case study which deals with the study of professional groups (a bigger and more diffusive group of 14 students). The process of training music teachers at sol-fa classes in a higher education establishment is analyzed and described. The sol-fa classes are oriented towards the development of harmonic hearing. The purpose of the study is to develop a technology of conducting sol-fa classes oriented towards developing students’ – the prospective music teachers’ – harmonic hearing on the basis of a case-study methodology; to present the developed material and ways of its application in the training process; to analyze and summarize the results of the research done. The research results show that the criteria relating to practical music making of students, such as polyphonic singing and intoning intervals and chords, and also those relating to creativeness, such as improvisation and composing the accompaniment for the melody, have been the most effective ones.
